ADORE v2.0.1 Documentation

ADORE (Architecture Design and Optimization Reasoning Environment) is a platform to support the implementation of System Architecture Optimization (SAO) problems. To do so, it provides an architecture design space modeling GUI, various interfaces for connecting to evaluation code, and interfaces for connecting to optimization algorithms:

ADORE Overview

System Architecture Optimization (SAO) is a subfield of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) that attempts to automate part of the system design process by formulating the system architecture design process as a numerical optimization problem. The system architecture represents the elements (components) a system consists of, how these fulfill the system functions, and how they are connected to each other. In SAO, system architectures are automatically generated in the optimization loop:

SAO Loop

To define and solve an SAO problem, you need to:

  • Model the architecture design space, including components, functions, architectural choices, and performance metrics.
  • Implement your evaluator and connect ADORE to it.
  • Configure and execute the optimization algorithm.

Installation

Python Library

Install ADORE as a library in your Python environment.

First obtain the ADORE Python library file (adore-<version>-cp3xx-any-none.whl) for your target Python version. The Python version can be seen from the file name: cp312 for example means Python 3.12. Note that only the CPython interpreter is supported.

Once you have the whl, run the following commands to install ADORE:

conda create -n adore python=3.12
conda activate adore
pip install adore-<version>.whl[opt,gui]

You can then run the GUI using: adore_ui

Standalone Executable (Windows)

Install ADORE as a standalone executable (no need to install Python).

First obtain the ADORE standalone installation file (ADORE-<version>-win64.zip). Then unzip the file to a directory of your choice and start adore.exe.

Windows path lengths

There could be a problem with too-long paths, preventing some files to be unzipped. To prevent this, unzip the file into a high-level directory, for example C:\Program Files.
