The Architecture Design and Optimization Reasoning Environment

Design better systems faster
Compared to traditional systems engineering processes, you can...
  • Explore larger architecture-level design spaces: millions to billions of architectures
  • Identify optimal designs quicker: from weeks to hours
Model your design problem
  • Define functions, components, subsystems, connections
  • Model architectural choices: function allocation, component-level parameters, connection patterns
  • Define input parameters and performance metrics
Connect to your simulation code
  • Through the Python API or by file-based data transfer
  • Local or remote execution
Explore and optimize
  • Automatically generate and evaluate architectures
  • Explore the design space, driven by powerful machine learning algorithms
  • Find the optimal Pareto front

How does it work?

You model your design space in ADORE: define system functions, allocate them to components, induce new system functions, define system, function or component parameters and performance metrics, connect components, etc.

Then, you connect to your simulation code: be it in Python or in an external environment (file-based transfer), you have to make sure that all information about your architectures gets transferred, so that you can automatically run the simulations needed to calculate the performance metrics.

Now you are ready to run the optimization: ADORE will automatically start generating architectures, which will be evaluated with your simulation code. The optimization algorithm will steer the exploration process towards the (Pareto) optimum.

About Us

ADORE is developed at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of System Architectures in Aeronautics, in Hamburg, Germany. Contact us at adore@dlr.de for any questions or suggestions.

The DLR is the national aeronautics and space research center of Germany, with over 11 thousand people working at 30 sites throughout the country. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into various national and international cooperative ventures.

The Institute of System Architectures in Aeronautics (SL) is located at the ZAL TechCenter in Hamburg. The institute develops aviation system concepts in close cooperation with the other DLR institutes, focusing on future aircraft and cabin concepts. To support the development of future systems, the institute also develops advanced digital methods and tools for managing digital threads and accelerating the digital engineering process. ADORE is one of the products arising from this, being developed from 2019 for accelerating the system architecting process.
